The fulleropyrrolidines are prepared by addition of azomethine ylides to C₆₀.  New materials for formation of Langmuir-Blodgett films containing fullerenes can be prepared from these derivatives. (Maggini, M. et. al., Tetrahedron Lett, 1994, 2985). 

The use of different aldehydes produces a wide range of functionalized fullerenes by this method (Wilson, S. R. et. al. in ,Fullerenes, R. S. Ruoff and K. M. Kadish, ed, ECS, 1994 , p 22-31) . 

The metabolism and toxicity of an N-methyl-fulleropyrrolidine salt was reported (Tour, J. and W. Scrivens.).
